The lawsuit spells it out clearly enough. Gibbons posted the video, the cop got angry, and soon after, officers hit his door. If that's the whole story, then the department didn't just make a tactical error. They sent a message to every person in Kingsport: question us, and we'll come through your front door. Filming police is not a crime. Questioning authority is protected speech. A badge does not cancel the Constitution.

We're not anti-cop. Most of us appreciate the work officers do. But there's a difference between backing law enforcement and defending lawless behavior. And this behavior was lawless. When the people sworn to protect the public start punishing the public for watching them, they're doing the opposite of their job. That should bother everyone who still believes in honest government.

Kingsport needs to answer for this. The officer involved should face real consequences, and the city should expect to pay for the damage. Because if a man can't criticize a cop's driving without losing his home, then the uniform means nothing. The badge is not a shield from accountability.
